The easiest way of doing this is reading the associated metadata of the requested image / acquisition. You can use Catalog API for this.

You can also obtain this information in an evalscript if you are using Process API. This example will do exactly that. If you examine the json file output you will see that you receive the list of acquisitions with the acquisition time to the nearest second.
